Is it important the investment of public authorities in culture?

We live in an age when investing in public servicies is a crucial point that local authorities have to keep in mind in order to make their inhabitants feel satisfied. It is believed that giving money to public activities does not generate any incomes, but make the city more attractive and welcoming.

On one hand, people are struggling with a lot of stress in their lifes, so it is highly important to provide a wide range of places where they can practice sport, outdoor or indoor. Apart from that, it is health necessary due to the fact that we are spending more time sitting in front of a screen, working or socialising, so we have decreased our active life to the minimum. For these reasons, having sport centrums would encourage people to do it more frequently and start a new lifestyle.

On the other hand, having the chance to enjoy opened air spaces in our masified cities is a key point that most of the people bear in mind when they want to, for instance, move to a new city. The need of going away from traffic jams, city rush or daily routines have upgraded parks, where people can fin enjoyable spots to share with family, friends or even by their own.

Moving this aspects to my current life in Leipzig, I have the feeling that this city provides a wide range of cultural things to do, which means that they promote it and is a very important aspect for its inhabitants. For example, some time ago it was possible to visit for only 5 euros all the museums and other cultural places during one night. You could even visit Halle, a close city where you could also visit all museums. It helped me to visit and enjoy most of the museums I wanted to visit but could not do because of the budget.

Other places in this city that promote and encourage culture are different associations that organice different events in which art is the main aspect, which is showed by the sponsoring of new artists, either musicians, photographers, painters, dancers… any art aspect of the life is covered by it.

To sump up this brief cultural and art aspect of Leipzig, I would like to day that I have never seen s city supporting culture that much, but also is never enough. Art is in every single asüect of our lifes and most of the time we are not aware of it, but the occupe main fields of our daily life.

Culture is a right, and the authorities shall make sure that all citizens have access to cultural life and to enjoy of its benefits. This deep cultural transformation that is highly needed, is possible not only with time but also with political acts. In this situation, economy should stop being the science that manage the lack to convert itself in the one that extend the human possibilities and encourage with ot every kind of innovation.
