The international volunteer day has been celebrating at the 5th of December, every year since 1985. Each year it has an own motto which was this year: “Volunteers build Resilient Communities”. We, the team of IIC Razlog, decided to participate and promote volunteering for youngsters in Razlog one week ago.

Long time ago, I volunteered in a refugee camp in Greece, but since then I am still connected to some organizations and people there on social media. The pictures they share and the stories they tell in only a few paragraphs frighten me, there is another winter to come on the island of Lesbos..

Ich habe es überlebt! Ich bin nicht vor Nervosität gestorben! Wenn ich zu dem gestrigen und heutigen Tag ein Motto finden sollte, dann wäre das: Ungeplant passt es am Besten.

Noch immer werden die Unweltprobleme der Welt oft zu wenig Ernst genommen und teils auch absichtlich zu Gunsten der Wirtschaft vernachlässigt. Auch in Griechenland sieht man die Folgen einer solchen Politik sehr deutlich.

Nowadays Germany is one of the countries, which has good practice examples on the inclusion of migrants and ethnic minorities in and through sport, which helps to raise the public’s awareness of the situation of refugees and to facilitate cross-cultural encounters. Germany implemented different sport projects at different levels, such as national- governmental and regional programs, professional further education, organized migrant sports clubs, sport projects for inclusion of migrant girls and women though sport into the local host society.
