Never be the same after Erasmus in Turkey
Time spent during my Erasmus in Adana with 4 amazing girls changed my world and gave me a lot of self-confidence and a lot of unforgettable memories.
My story of Erasmus is connected not only to special country that I have got a chance to visit and that will maintain in my heart forever but also with one special person that actually is not from some far away country as she is living in the same neighborhood as me but if we had not been connected by our lovely city Adana in Turkey during our Erasmus program we would not have had probably a chance to get to know each other, at least not so closely.
The whole story started when all of us, 5 Slovak girls, met at the train station before midnight at one February night 2 years ago. I was younger than all 4 of them so actually it was the first time I had met with them in person. I was a little bit nervous not only from leaving my country to one of my biggest adventure but also cause I have no idea if those girls like me or not. But we were on the same boat …
Adana took my breath from beginning: the difference between weather – nice and hot, orange trees on the streets, different kind of buildings, noble mosques, and mysterious sounds from minarets but also totally different transportation with noisy trumps and with drivers not respecting the rules. All of it looked chaotic and at the same time so organized and beautiful. At that moment I knew that I fell in love. But I was not the only one who felt that atmosphere. There was Nika, the nice girl with long dark hair and the bravest one of us. She knew how to communicate with people even if Turkish did not understand English and even if she knew only few Turkish words. She loved to explore the city, got to know new people or just sat somewhere and felt the atmosphere.
It was her thanks to I changed myself so much. She gave me confidence and with small pushes she tried to help me to grow. I know that without her I would not experience so great small adventurous as visiting Turkish wedding, talking with amazing American professor during drinking our favorite portakal suyu (orange juice), or fortune telling from Turkish coffee. She showed me that there is no reason to be afraid to go forward and accept challenges that are before us and that even if the life is playing hard you have to fight for your own happiness and do not be afraid.
