Brother for life
He entered my life, made me love him, and never left me.
This story is a little different from the other ones but I would love to tell it to you anyway. It's still about cultural exchanges but it took place in my home town, Stockholm, in Sweden the year of 2014. This is a letter to the stranger who became my brother for life, enjoy!
My dear Santi,
the day you arrived to Stockholm I went to the training just because I was way to nervous to go meet you at the airport. When I finally got home you were pretty tired but I remember that we saw the ice cream truck that day and it was the first time we ever laughed together.
You had already learned pretty good Swedish when you arrived which made it much easier to communicate and you could from the first day make me laugh when ever I needed it the most.
It's hard for a person with totally different culture and habits to adjust to a new place and you did it way faster than I could never imagine. You brought our family together and helped us discover our own country together with you. Thanks to you we went to all the places and made all the things we always talked about but never took time to do.
Santi, you gave me a bigger world view and courage to go away on exchange myself. You helped me understand what brings people together and that even though we live in different parts of the world we have a lot in common. You got me to open my eyes and see all the greatness of the world. Thank you.
One year after that I gave you the last hug in Sweden we got together once again, but this time in your country. You gave us the opportunity to meet your biological family and suddenly it felt like we all were one huge family. I never felt so comfortable with strangers as with your family.
Thank you for bringing your two families together, letting me discover your country, open my eyes and made me understand that anything is possible.
I miss you every day but we'll see each other soon again. My brother for life, I love you.
Your sister Eli
