It's coming to an end!

Extending my project, looking for my options for the future and welcoming new volunteers!

Oh man! The last months have been such a rollercoaster that I couldn’t focus on writing. But here I am with all my life updates.

In the beginning, I applied for a year-long project, but I ended up signing a 10-month one, and then my project coordinator told me that we actually can extend it *vrrm vrrrm* good news!

Just because I am in the UK doesn’t mean I have to deal with fewer paperwork, it took me some time to get everything they asked for. Even a new passport (I went to Dublin for that). My friends were going there too so I just joined them, lucky me. Now I’m waiting for my visa appointment next week.

I have been considering the things I could do in the future. I thought I would apply for masters but then I noticed I didn’t want to study another 2 years, this time I’ll gain experience first and then I’ll see if I want to study any further. It's a good time to reconsider my career goals.

Now putting the numbers and the facts aside, I want to talk about how I feel.

It's quite difficult to summarise the whole thing for many reasons. I can’t help but think about how I changed, how the environment I live in changed throughout the months. New people, new atmosphere! Living with more than 20 volunteers from all around the world in a community with a ‘volunteering culture of more than 50 years’ After ten months I can doubtlessly say: it’s been fantastic.

How do I know?

Seeing new volunteers, all excited, curious, and sometimes overwhelmed by all the things going on around them, I cannot blame them really. I wasn’t any different. Did you ever share a living space with so many people before? Well you should give it a try, you will just keep learning something new every day.

But

It can get overwhelming at times. It is not easy coming back ‘home’ after a long day you just want to chill and people are all around asking questions that they can google. Or just seeing the kitchen being a big mess...

I couldn’t quite understand some things said by that the volunteers who had been there longer than I did back then. But now it’s crystal clear!

It gets more rewarding as we put more effort into what we do though.

What do you think? Did you feel like a different person after finishing your project? Let me know
