Comments on appearance, offensive stickers, threats and discussion of intimate life on the network - according to UNICEF, in Europe, about 50% of adolescents were victims of cyberbullying. Every third child skipped school because of this, and the main social platforms for bullying are Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat. Why cyberbullying should not be underestimated and how to act.
My friend works in a children's organization on a project, and she told me that her ward girl came across a bowling alley. She was not bullied at school, but directly on the Internet. And these were the children from the children's organization where she runs the ESK project. She decided to sort this out. I think that many of the volunteers who are running projects now face similar situations. How to behave to the volunteer and teachers, I will try to tell.
UNICEF defines cyberbullying as bullying using digital technology. It can occur on social networks, instant messengers, gaming platforms and mobile phones, in particular through: spreading lies or posting photos that compromise someone, messages or threats that offend someone or can harm someone, attempts to impersonate for another / another and sending messages to other people on his / her behalf.
Julia Ionnikova, volunteer.
Julia is studying at a teacher training college in Korostyshev as a primary school teacher. She likes to shoot videos and do motivational posts with photos on social networks. It monitors health and is engaged in self-development. However, she was not always so confident in herself.
“At first I thought that my story was not even worth such attention. But in fact, this may concern not only me.
Last July, I started shooting videos for myself at TikTok. Had a few dozen views, and this was enough for me. It was a platform for my jokes and ideas. One fine day, I decided to make fun of the Lukists. The video joked that people who condemn others in appearance forget about theirs. I did not expect that this video will be included in the recommendations. Everyone registered with TikTok knows that getting into the recommendations is very cool. Swearing immediately rained down. The video collected about 300 thousand views. A few minutes later I noticed the first comment. It was positive. On this day, it seemed to me that is was so unique. Then there was a terrible waking dream for a person who is most concerned about the opinions of others. People easily found a minus in me - overweight. I read how they wanted me dead and called ugly, and how such an ugly girl could advise something on the Internet. I remember every grudge and every text in my own direction.
I registered for an online marathon on Instagram - this is when many girls lose weight together, and it turned out that you do not need to starve for this, you need to love yourself. And then I managed to lose weight. And at that moment I realized that I can do everything, and those comments are not true.
The only good thing I learned from this experience was the understanding that people who express their thoughts about your appearance and intellect are worth nothing. You are what you consider yourself to be. And no one has anything to do with it. A year passed, and I realized that I love myself, so why should I live in negativity and torture myself like that. I myself became more attentive to the one to whom I say and what, and whether or not to speak out in some cases or is it better to remain silent. Now I am doing videos on instagram about cyberbullying and my stories, writing posts, sharing my thoughts, I like it. At least one person will read this and become more tolerant of others. ”
What I understood from Julia’s example: the quarantine situation gave a clear picture that most of our lives are online. Therefore, I would not underestimate cyberbullying - it is much easier, because you do not need to look in the eye, just comment and hide. Because cyberbullying is aimed at changing your behavior so that self-censorship appears. But you can not deviate from the principles. Being in solidarity means not expressing hatred to people. How many people - so many opinions. Be more united, and so you will make the world a better place!
