The "slow movement" began in the late eighties with opposition to the growing popularity of fast food, when people gathered in large numbers to demonstrate against the opening of McDonald's near the historic Plaza de España in Rome. The main idea of the movement is to abandon the fuss and accelerate any processes in favor of awareness, pondering the actions performed and enjoying them. Now the slow movement is spreading to a wide variety of areas of life, from gardening to education, and even received its own scientific organization - the World Institute of Slowness.
The term "slow fashion" was coined by journalist and author of books on sustainable development in fashion Kate Fletcher in 2007. According to her, "slow fashion is not a seasonal trend that comes and goes like molting in animals, but an environmentally sustainable movement that is gaining momentum." The main thesis of slow fashion is that quality is more important than quantity, and from it follows a slowdown in the consumption of clothes and a conscious choice of durable things. This is slow shopping.

Fletcher contrasted slow fashion with fast, that is, fast fashion, which can be considered synonymous with the mass market - cheap low-quality clothing, the collections of which are changed in stores almost every week, and the production volumes are huge. More than 150 billion garments and accessories are produced annually in the world, which are bought in a hurry. As a result, a colossal part of them is sent to landfills - the amount of textile waste has grown by 811% in half a century. And in this light, the idea of slow shopping becomes one of the ways to minimize damage.
What to wear with new shoes? Are they comfortable? Is it produced to please more than one season? If you give up thoughtlessly following fast trends and spend a little more time choosing new clothes, shoes and accessories, it will help to avoid impulsive purchases, after which things are likely to end up in the far corner of the closet or be thrown away.

Accelerating the pace of life has side effects known to all: it is one of the main sources of stress for the population of large cities - more than 80% of city dwellers suffer from it and related health problems.
