Zero waste
Zero waste is a movement whose task is to minimize the amount of waste. That is, to give up over-consumption, reuse things and recycle certain types of garbage.
Surprisingly, of all my friends, my grandmother is closest to zero waste. She hasn't heard of any fashion concepts, but not every eco-activist can boast of habits like hers. My grandmother has several vegetable gardens, and she almost does not throw away food (if anything remains, she turns it into fertilizer). She also has a dog and piglets that can be fed leftover food. The grandmother often looks not at the expiration date, but at the condition of the product, and eats everything that is in good condition. It freezes food that could go bad, such as oil and herbs. She also has a lot of canned food: there is always stew, peas, corn and other products that can be stored for years.
I myself became interested in the topic of zero waste when I moved to Germany. This movement is quite widespread among the youth of Europe, my friends and I bought markers, black containers and decorated them according to the types of garbage. Our curator advised us to divide the trash into five parts: common waste (mainly food), glass, paper and metal, easily recyclable PET plastic and other types of plastic. The most difficult thing for me in the transition to zero waste is that now I need to analyze every action. Is it possible to leave a paper label on the bottle, where to put the packages from delivery, when to take clothes for recycling. In this case, you usually have to choose from two evils. For example, paper coffee cups are not recyclable, which means it's best to carry a mug with you. But it needs to be washed, which means - to waste water. It's like dancing on mines.
But I try to do what I can. For example, do not take straws in a cafe, drink coffee from a mug at home, do not take plastic cutlery in delivery. For those who want to live a more sustainable life, I advise you to start with something small. Of course, it's not easy to take on all possible sorting at once, it's good if your friends support you. Start small: buy yourself a fancy portable glass if you can't live without coffee. And now you have already helped, you are great.
