In Slovakia, on May 10, the World Hockey Championship began. The tournament starts a week later than usual, after the end of the second round of the NHL playoffs. Since the beginning of the World Cup overseas season finished 27 of the 31 clubs (and among them almost all the favorites, who unexpectedly flew out early this year), many strong players came to their teams more than ever. Because of this, the tournament promises to be one of the most interesting in many years.
Russia has a dream team
The Russian national team is probably the main contender for gold medals. To understand this, it is enough to list the achievements of some players this season: Nikita Kucherov scored 128 points in the NHL regular season (this is an absolute record for the Russians) and will almost certainly be recognized as the most valuable player of the season, and his partner in Tampa Andrey Vasilevsky won 39 victories and, most likely, will be the best goalkeeper.
The United States - the strongest part in the history. And they have a future first issue of the draft.
The United States, which used to send youth to the world championships more often than others, has changed their attitude to the tournament in recent years and every year they are gathering an increasingly powerful lineup. It seems that the US team brought to Slovakia the strongest players of all possible at the moment: the already recognized superstars Patrick Kane, Jack Aykel, Johnny Goodro, and Dylan Larkin and Alex Debrinkat as leaders of their teams this season will play at the World Cup.
And do not forget about Sweden!
Against the background of the supercompositions of Russia and the USA and the default of strong Canada, the Swedish national team looks much weaker by name: many of its top players did not go to the championship - Niklas Bekstrem, Victor Hedman, Philip Forsberg, Mika Zibanejad.
Nevertheless, the Swedes still remain among the contenders for the victory: first, they include the best newcomer of the NHL season, striker Elias Pettersson, top defenders Matthias Ekholm and Oliver Ekman-Larsson and aging, but still great goalkeeper Henrik Lundquist.
It is very convenient that this year the Hockey World Cup is held in Europe, and any young man can easily get to the ice stadiums and watch the game. And even more for the children who are doing their internship in Slovakia, it’s very close to them and the opportunity to attend this holiday is doubled. I understand that in Western Europe, hockey is less popular than for example football, but still. I really love this kind of variety, and would have dreamed of visiting this spectacular sport. If suddenly, I study, I will go there and give the report directly from the scene.
