I got valuable experiences in and knowledge about intercultural and multilingual communication. I have attended German lessons in addition to which my practical language skills improved. My English and Spanish skills helped me communicate freely with my German co-workers, friends, and people from different countries. During this year I have improved my writing skills by joining Youthreporters and writing reports about events in Europe and issues I deemed important.
Throughout my daily life, both at work and in my free time, I have learned to interact and cooperate with other people who have very different backgrounds from my own. My experiences living in Germany, making friends with locals, and volunteering in the social sphere have given me an in-depth understanding of German history, culture, and society.
During my voluntary service, I got to use media and communication, technology, and computing. I have learned how to use better the technical skills to use digital technologies. I had the ability to use digital technologies in a meaningful way for working, studying, and for everyday life in general in various activities. My work required good reading, interpreting, and construction of tables, charts, and graphs for recording the participation of volunteers in the workcamps abroad and in Germany. Calculating how many volunteers participated, the budget received, age, occupation for end of the year statistics was one of the main jobs. Knowledge of computer programs and their use was a skill that enabled me to get the job done easily.
In my work with volunteers, partners, and colleagues, I honed my oral and written communication skills. My proficiency in reading, writing in English, and other subskills include understanding and expressing ideas and opinions, solving problems, and making decisions.
During the voluntary service, I developed skills like how to talk to others to convey information effectively. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems regarding work. The placement officer position gave me an opportunity to communicate and interact with people of all ages and from all over the world. This exposed me to different kinds of people and challenged me which in turn prepared me for my future. Thanks to this position I gained more experience in interacting with others and facing challenges.
