Shiny happy people?
No matter what we do and where we go, there are always moments when we would love to hide in our rooms and put an end to all interactions which we had with the outside world. In these stressful times it is recommended to dance out (or cry out) all our negative thoughts. But what happens when this is just not enough to continue without any problems the so called “once in a lifetime opportunity” (also known as European Voluntary Service)?
Outside is raining, you had a hard and nerve-racking day at your job, your internet is not working, and you don’t have any books in your mother-tongue. You hate to cook, and actually you are not hungry. Your flat mate is at university, and in fact you don’t want to meet her. You have to face it: you have homesickness.
And let´s be honest: it is absolutely normal that you miss your family, your friends, your newborn nephew, your favorite pub(s), but sooner or later it comes the time when you simply have to grow up. And this can´t happen in your small little room next to your parents’ bedroom. And being a grownup can be quite a hard job… even when you are a volunteer.
But even though don’t forget to dance and to look at the bright side of the things, even if you didn’t see and feel the sunshine for months. The sun is there somewhere… above the clouds. But it’s there.
Ps. any tips what (and how) to do in these “desperate” days? :)

However, even if you´re not in the mood of going out - GO OUT. Check the pubs, cafés, shops next to you. Do sightseeing. Go to the next museum - do something you wouldn´t do at home. (In the beginning of my EVS - when I actually didn´t know anybody - I sat alot on my own in cafés. I started to enjoy it. Just the feeling of having people around me made me feel better.) Take the next train to the next city - EAT something :).
Just go out, please. And don´t stay at home :)
the aim was to reflect and say out (or write down) that sometimes life can be hard. but im not depressed, the sun is shining, and thankgod im a vegetarian, so a i dont have to eat wurst :)))
Nice text! So true! During my EVS I had a lot of times, these feeling that nothing is good and that you just want to go home. When I felt like you described it in your text I tried to do as much as possible. Just go out, enjoy the sun and meet with people, even if you are not in the mood for it, but believe me, it helps! When you have a lot to do and have loads of fun, your homesickness will go away. Not all of course, but at least so much that you will enjoy your time abroad! :)
Good luck and don't forget: life is beautiful!!
Greetings,
Mushu :)
