Norway is waiting

28. Juli 2010

Norway - the land of trolls, mountains, lakes, snow, elks and endless ranges.

Sounds great, but what do I know about this fascinating land? I know the big port in Oslo for the Color Line Ferries, the E6 and its immediately surroundings, some supermarkets and several ski resorts and the connected cabins. That's it!

But it will change soon: At the 1st september I will fly to Norway for one learn to learn about the country, its people, its culture and its history.

I will live in Dale, a small town in the West directly situated at a Fjord, and will work at the local school. Sounds great, hu? I am totally excited to start my adventure in the North and looking forward to meet all the nice people there =) I have heared that Norwegian people are nice and friendly... Hopefully I will be shown that as well^^

For being not all alone I will live with three other volunteers. They also look forward to next month and it will be a special moment when we all will meet at the Oslo airport. Will it be easy to recognize them or will we pass each other without noticing?

One month left... One month to plan everything and to do so many things... My to-do-list is long but I am motivated to cope with it. I mean taking photos with friends, collecting addresses and buying some posters isn't that complicated, is it? It's much more difficult to learn some Norwegian words... How shall I know if an "o" is prononced "o" or "u"? But I'll try my best and will tell you about my improvements xP

And then there's the most important question: How to pack my bags for one year? officially I can take 20kg but how? That is never enough... it will be a big challenge to put everything I need together and not to forget anything...there are sooooo many things…

Better to stop now and thinking about my to-do-list...

I'll try to write regularly about new facts, ideas and events... and about my increasing panic concerning the 1st september xP

see you soon =)

The rule for pronounciation is: There is no rule.... As far as I know, "o" always is pronounced "u", except when it comes with an "v". "Ov" always is pronounced "ov". But of course there are several exception... We'll learn it when we're there and hear it. Don't despair, you'll learn it quickly. If you've got any questions: Feel free to ask!
