Zum Rhythmus der Mülltrommel/ To the beat of the "rubbish" drum
It is recommended, starting to collect materials as soon as possible. Materials can be empty plastic bottles (especially in countries without “Pfand”), egg boxes or coffee can. Its always good to keep the eyes open and observe what other people put on the street- it might be able to be reused, for example old pans or empty oil drums. Another possiblity ist o ask the neighbour if they want to get rid of some “rubbish”. Most neighbours are happy about this questions and are very helpful. It is recommended to buy some basic materials, especially glue and colours.
Kaffeedosen-Trommel
Material
-leere Kaffeedose aus Metall
-Backpapier
-Klebstoff
-Farbe
-bunte Schnüre
-ggf.
Coffee can drum
Material
-empty coffee box out of metal
-baking paper
-glue
-colour
-colourful strings
-decorations like pearls, nature materials (maple same, chestnut cover etc.)
First of all, you wash the coffee cans and put them in hot water until the paper cover is easy to loose. Afterwards you can paint the can from the outside. It is important to to know that the part some centimeters before the top will not be seen afterwards so you should not paint it. The next step is to stick a piece of baking paper (in a square) at the opening of the can. In order to do so you put glue on the border of the can and push the paper. You repeat this step another two times to be sure that the surface of the drum is thick enough. Afterwards you tie strings around the part above of the drum (so that the you have a circle with the baking paper) and you can decorate it with pearls or other materials. It is possible to draw something on the baking paper but you should be really careful and not use to much colour or colour if everywhere (it can have a negative impact on the acustics).
Regenrassel
Material
-leere Flasche/ Posterhülle
-Farbe
-Steine/ Reis/ Muscheln/ Kichererbsen
-ggf. Nägel
-ggf. Klebstoff
Rain rattle
Materials:
-empty bottle/ poster box (round)
-colour
-stones/ rice/ mussels/ chick pea
-nails (not mandatory)
-hammer (not mandatory if you don’t use nails)
-glue (not mandatory)
First of all you colour the bottle or the poster box from the outside. Afterwards you put nails into it in order to make the filling move slower and make different noises. This is not mandatory. After the colour is dry you can fill the bottle or poster box with stones, mussels, rice, chick peas or other materials that sound similar. Rice, chick peas and other aliments should only be used if they can not be eaten or fed to animals anymore. It is possible that you have to close holes with glue.
Rassel- Armbänder
Material
Rattle bracelet
Material
-bottle cap of plastic bottles
-a fork (which you don’t need anymore) or a nail
-wire
Attention: Making this instruments will smell bad so either do it outside or leave the windows wide open.
In the best case you have a gas cooker (Might work with a lighter as well… just needs more time). You put the fork or the nail in the flames until it heats. Then you put it in the middle of the cap in order to melt a little hole. When you have done this with several caps you can put them on a wire and tie a not in the end. You can wear them around your arms and feet.
Alternative: You can also use metal cups but the you need a drill to make holes. Another alternative is to use the little metal thing of cans. Then you need even need to melt a little hole.
Eisstiel-Mundharmonika
Material
-Eisstiele
-Papier
-Zahnstocher
-Gummis
Popsicle harmonica
Material
-popsicle: If you eat ice which is not in a waffle but which you hold on a wood stick in your hand… the wooden stick is what you need!
-paper
-toothpick
-gum (the gum which is used to close open packages for example)
-scissor
You take two ice sticks and put a paper between them which you cut before in form of a the sticks. Then you put half of a toothpick between the paper and the ice stick which is one the top. On the end of both sides you fix the ice sticks with gums. On the side with the toothpick the gum has to be more close to the end of the stick. To play the instrument you press with you hands on both sides to that there is an empty space between the sticks and the paper. You can vary the sound with your breath and how strong and fast you press the end of the sticks together.
